Finding Rear Wheel Drive Cars Available In India. And Are Ready To Drift.

         Once walking down the street watching Formula Drift, A Thought came up in my mind, Why India have nothing like drifting, and I turned my head around and noticed cars around me. Then realized That's why. So today I am going to a mission of finding all the rear wheel drive cars in India.

so lets get started.

Before that I have also mentioned few local rear wheel drive car you can mod them to drift in my first blog. I suggest you to check it out.

STARTING OFF WITH.

1. Mercedes C-class W203 2001-2007:

Came with supercharged Inline-4, with a 6 speed manual transmission produce 

• Max power - 130bhp @5500rpm, 
• Max torque - 185NM @3500rpm

Price range - 1 lacks to 5 lacks, Are easily available in used car market depending on their condition.

You could chip tune them a could bump up the power upto 25-30hp.

Tune it, weld the diff of replace The rear diff.

Tighten the hand break.

AND ITS READY TO DRIFT😉...

2. Mercedes C-Class W204 C200 kompressor 2008- 2014:

Comes with 1.5 liter Supercharged Inline-4, With 6 Speed Manual Transmission Pumps Upto.

• Max power - 181 Bhp @5500rpm.
• Max torque - 250 NM @2800-5000rpm.

Available in Used Car market at the Price Range of 5lacks - 12 lacks.

AND THIS CARS ARE DRIFT READY...😎

3. BMW 3 Series E36 and E46:

These car came with 1.6 liter engine to 3 liter engine.

• Produce 185-225 HP(depending on model)

These car are used For drifting world wide.

These cars Are widely available in India And are available in use car market.

And lots of After market parts available for these car.

4. 1st gen Isuzu gemini 1974-1987:

came with a rear wheel drive setup and had 108 HP engines.

Price ranging 50k to 3 Lacks rupees depending on the condition.

5. Mercedes Benz w124 E-class and w201:

W124: 136 Hp @5500rpm, and  190NM of torque @4000rpm.

W201-190e: 182 BHp, and 173 lb ft of torque.

These cars are easily availaible in used car market at the price range of 1 Lacks to 10 Lacks depending on the condition.

And these cars are heavy so it might need serious weight reduction(I have made a blog of how to tune a car go check it out, might help.) 

6. BMW E60 5-series:

These cars came with inline 6 and V8's

• 154 BHp to 268BHp
• 350 BHp in V8 engines.

These car has lots of tuning potential, and lots of after market parts are available, to set em Drift.

And price ranging 3Lacks to 10Lacks in used car market.

7. Toyota Crown:

This car one of JDM cars and Some version 1987-2001 came with 2jz GE naturally aspirated engine (engine used in supra).

These are the most common engine in tuner world and lots of parts available world wide.

You can find these cars in used car market in Price range of 3Lacks to 10Lacks.

And these cars are most common drift car in Japan.

8. BMW E34 5-series E39 5-series:

These cars are used for Drifting worldwide.

These car are available in used car market in at price range of 10 lacks.

These car has lots of after markets available to set em Drift. 

9.Lexus gs300 1st and 2nd gen 1991 2004: 

These cars came with 2JZ GTE engine of Supra.

There are lots of tuning parts available for this engine.

These cars are available in used car market at a Price range of 10 Lacks.

10. Toyota jzx90 mark II 1992  1996:

You can drift these car as so many parts available in the market,

These cars can be seen Drifting world wide as it  has lots of tuning potential.

These cars are available at the Price range of 4Lacks in used car market.

REQUIRED MODS FOR DRIFTING.(Beginners Steps)

 Important mods to start drifting.

After getting a car to drift now it time to make that car as Drift Car.

if you still need help getting a drift car in India you can check out my previous blog.

So lets get started..

• SAFETY.

Safety is a very important, and mandatory mod. motorsport is a very dangerous sports. So safety first everything next. Even you are not going ham, pedal to the metal still safety is important because things happen.

        1. Roll cage/ Roll bar:

            Understand you are not going for pro drifting or something like that but still you can roll over. So not a full pro level roll cage is not necessary, but if you want it really good. But for beginner a 6 point roll cage is good enough. "Roll cage save life's".

        2. BUCKET SEATS.

              Bucket seats are also necessary for your safety. You  can just buy basis non fia approved seats. That do help you be planted in place and not mover you around even after crashes. Bucket seat also help you with weight reduction.

        3. SEAT BELT.

            Seat belts are really critical. Please avoid buying 4 point seat belt, because of submarine. As the name it self means in event of crash you might just slid off the seat and might end up near pedals, and that's not gonna be good. So I recommend 5 point seat belt or 6 point.           4. FIRE EXTINGUISHER.

                IT is a must thing to have. If you are have a full built you fire suppression system if cost a lots of money but it is a lot safer. But if you cant afford use any kind of fire extinguisher in your car. link above for one.

AFTER ALL THE SAFETY NOW ITS TIME TO GO ON PERFORMANCE. THE FUN PART.

• WEIGHT.

A one of important in any kinds of motorsport, every kilo effects your performance. So the less weight the "MORE POWER BABY".

• WEIGHT REDUCTION BASICS.

Now its time to make your car look like a rad drift car.

THINGS YOU CAN REMOVE (INTERIOR).

• Air conditioners
• Heating 
• Radio
• Door panels
• Passenger seats/ rear passenger seats.

THINGS YOU CAN REPLACE

• A Light weight steering wheel.
• Seats with light weight bucket seats .

Now the exterior

• Replacing hood and trunk with carbon fiber, or other light weight material
• Emptying your trunk.(make sure to remove Spare wheel, jack, or what ever is in your trunk before drifting for safety of other people behind you.) 
• Upgrading wheels, there are lots of companies out there manufacturing good, light weight wheel, Choose your pick. ;) 

Next is ENGINE.         

    In Engine we need to look after Power, Reliability.

As much as power is needed, maintaining the engine healthy is equally needed.

       UPGRADES.

• Upgrading your radiator
• Installing upgraded fan setup
• Turbo Charging you car.
• Getting a new decent quality air filter
• Installing a performance Exhaust(generally the more air flow, The "MORE POWER BABY")

This upgrades will help you getting some performance out of the Engine.

Now its time to make your engine reliable.

•  Oiling your engine Time to Time
• Proper maintenance

UPGARDS That helps in drifting.

• Suspension setup.

                      So you want something adjustable. You want something with coil over springs where you can adjust the preload, and also adjust the height separately. 

• Angle kit.

                    If you are just starting off not necessary, but angle kit does help in Drifting.

• DRIFT SETUP.

1.For beginner rear you can go 0 camber, 0 toe. You basically need max grip out of your rear tire.

2. Stiffer, softer sway bar settings.

3. Rear Diff, Welding the rear diff (just welding spider gears)#driftlife :)

4. Stock hand brakes are good enough after tightening up or else you can always go for Hydraulic hand brake.

These are  the things I feel are the most important for you to get started. But other than this STYLE is also as equal as every thing. Make your car look like it shouts and say it belongs to you.

Cheapest possible Drift car in INDIA for you to starting Drifting.

Drifting in India:

          lets start with what is drifting: Drifting is a driving technique where you purposely loose the traction of your vehicle. And try to maintain the car side ways by countersteering. OR in easy words of the great Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson Turn right to go left "

lets begin with the topic, as drifting requires rear wheel drive cars, (you can't drift a fwd car, and if you say that as drifting -THATS NOT-) and in India finding a rear wheel drive car is kinda difficult.

So here I bring you guys with possible Indian drift cars:

the first car is an old one.

• Premier 118 ne:

YES this old car. comes with front engine and rear wheel drive setup. This car is a door saloon(sedan) type body with a front engine rear wheel drive setup. the Premier Padmini 118NE's engine is naturally aspirated petrol, 1.2 liter, overhead valve 4cylinder with 2 valves per cylinder. This car has 52bhp @5600rpm, and max torque of 79NM@4000rpm. And with a max speed of 135kmph(84mph).

And there are lots of mods available mods can be done to this car. And this car price range from 70k up to 4 Lacks depending on the conditions.

• Maruti Suzuki Omni.

 YES, believe it or not people around world wide use this little boy for drifting, and grip racing. The above image omni is rotary swaped used for drifting. The Maruti omni come with a 3 cylinder, inline with rear wheel drive setup. Pushes 34BHP @ 5000RPM, 59 Nm of torque @ 2500 RPM. surly not enough for drifting. But you can swap the engine with many other car available  which might help you drift in this light weight 785kg chassis. 

This car can be easily available at the price range of 50k to 4 Lacks depending on the condition. MY personal recommendation use a roll cage before any drift attempt.

• Maruti Suzuki Eeco:

 The successor of omni in India, The Maruti Suzuki Eeco/ versa is use for drifting and for grip racing in Japan. This van comes with a front engine and rear wheel drive setup. Which is a petrol engine of 1196cc. Bc racing Also manufacture the coil over kit for this van. 

And personally first mod necessary is to lower the car with  a stiffer suspension setup for not to roll over and always you roll cage.

Those are the few car. stay tuned for more info on drifting. Drifting is a dangerous sport use every precautions before drifting and always use roll cage and do not drift or race in public places.
